Rota’s Tranquil Shores: A Beach Lover’s Paradise Nestled in the Western Pacific, the island of Rota in the Northern Mariana Islands is a hidden gem boasting pristine beaches that captivate visitors with their untouched beauty and serene ambiance. These coastal havens, with their powdery sands and crystal-clear waters, offer a tranquil escape surrounded by the lush tropical landscapes of the Pacific.
Tweksberry Beach: In the Trust Territory era, Mr. Tewksberry, a Rota Administrator, chose this location as the hub for community gatherings and activities. He enlisted students from the nearby public school to help plant numerous coconut trees that had been transported from the Island of Yap. This initiative aimed to beautify the area and provide a sustainable source of food and resources for the community.
Teteto Beach: In April 2020, Teteto beach won 1st Place Reader’s Choice Best Beach Overseas for 3 consecutive years [2018-2020] at the Dive & Travel Award at the Annual Marine Diving Fair in Tokyo, Japan. The beach has become a popular destination for both locals and visitors due to its pristine, crystal-clear water.
Guata Beach: Former Mayor Joseph S. Inos established Guata Beach Park as a place for people to enjoy picnics and outdoor activities. However, the park is now under the care of the Marianas Visitors Bureau (MVB), which has taken on the responsibility of maintaining it as a popular tourist destination. As a result, the park has been designated to the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA). Visitors and the local community are still welcome to Guata Beach Park to relax and have fun.
Rota Swimming Hole: The “Swimming Hole” is a beloved fishing spot for the people who live in the nearby farming communities. Thomas M. Calvo, a former coordinator at the Marianas Visitors Bureau, recognized its potential as a tourist attraction and decided to develop it as such. Today, it is one of the top destinations for both locals and visitors due to its natural charm and peaceful environment. It offers a serene atmosphere, making it the perfect place to unwind and find tranquility.
Rota Grotto: There is a small opening above ground that leads to the ocean water. This opening has become a popular attraction for the local population, especially during coconut crab hunting. Recognizing its potential, the Marianas Visitors Bureau decided to adopt it as a tourist destination for hikers.
